Fire Station No. 2 Project
The 2030 Vision and Strategic Plan challenges Prior Lake to deliver quality services to a growing community. In 2006, the public accepted the challenge and approved a referendum for a new Fire Station by a 2-1 margin. Fire Station No. 2 is a significant investment and a tremendously important tool in maintaining the fire department’s quality of service and the quality of life for current and future residents.
Located at the intersection of County Rd. 21, Fountain Hills Dr. and Enclave Ave. in the Jeffers Waterfront. The property was considered the most effective for a second fire station by a Boarman Kroos response time study.
Fire Station No. 2 construction is on schedule and should be completed before June 1.
The exterior is 99% complete. The exterior insulating and protective finish system will be installed as temperatures reach more then 50 degrees. The building is watertight and the standing seam metal roofing can be complete now that the snow is ending. Paving and landscaping will proceed in late April or early May, depending on weather.

The permanent overhead garage doors were installed and all permanent windows are in.
The interior apparatus bay is painted and final mechanical installation is underway. The interior epoxy flooring will be installed around the middle of May to reduce the amount of traffic before the facility opens.
The interior offices are painted and ceiling grids and lights are in place. Carpet can be rolled once the overhead work is completed.
The current interior design calls for a 10,000 square-foot station with three apparatus bays, standby area, offices, equipment and storage areas, a meeting room, kitchen, and leased space for tenant Allina Ambulance. Allina will provide vital medical transport and advanced life support services to residents, making sure they get to the care they need when they need it.
To minimizing operation and energy costs. Windows are strategically placed to bring light and heat in, and energy efficient insulation, lighting, heating and air conditioning, is part of the design, as well.
Exterior materials are being chosen for durability, color and consistency with adjacent buildings. The neighborhood is a variety of homes from town homes to single-family dwellings. Fire Station No. 2 is the first building in the commercial development and will set the standard for 24 acres of upscale businesses in Jeffers Waterfront.
The 1.3 acre site for Fire Station No. 2. was a gift from the site’s developer, Wensmann Homes. Calculated by today’s standards, its value exceeds $265,000.
The architect for First Station No. 2 is I&S Engineers & Architects, Inc. The company has offices in Mankato and Faribault and a lot of experience building fire stations. Currently, the firm is working on design plans and specifications. A tentative timetable suggests construction will begin this summer.
