Economic Development
Prior Lake is booming with economic development and exciting opportunities are plentiful. Developments include the Downtown Design Guidelines (approved in October, 2007), the landmark Rock Creek Building downtown at Main Ave. and Hastings Ave. that will add 17,000 square feet of Class A office and prime retail/commercial space.
| Downtown Redevelopment Request for Proposals |

Downtown Blocks 2, 4, 13 and 15 (left) roughly bound by Main Ave. on the east, Dakota St. on the north, Erie Ave. on the west, and Pleasant St. on the south, are in the redevelopment process.
The City recently released a Request for Proposals for redevelopment of this area.
The City of Prior Lake 2030 Vision and Strategic Plan calls for Prior Lake's downtown to be a unique community focal point and attraction that contributes to the City’s identity, offers opportunities for recreation, employment, housing, shopping and dining. Downtown redevelopment is also supported by the City’s Comprehensive Plan, Downtown Development Guide, and Downtown Building Design Guidelines.

Over the last eight years the Prior Lake City Council has set the stage for downtown redevelopment including studying current and future needs of downtown; remodeling existing buildings; installing infrastructure/streetscape; adding new businesses, buildings and events; adding parking for current and future needs; and developing policies and ordinances to guide future development and redevelopment. Given this, and the very favorable characteristics of Prior Lake’s trade area, downtown Prior Lake offers tremendous opportunity for redevelopment and investment.
As the next step, the City Council approved a Request for Qualifications/Request for Proposals (RFQ-RFP) for Downtown Redevelopment. The RFQ-RFP asks developers to propose creative redevelopment improvements for downtown while working with existing property owners and businesses to assure that they are well served by the redevelopment. Deadline to submit proposals is June 30, 2008 at 4 p.m.
