Asian beetles (a relative of the native ladybug) can be a significant annoyance in the spring and autumn. The beetles were intruduced in different parts of North America at various times over the past 100 years as a means to control aphids on soybeans and other crops. They have now established a permanent presence in the U.S. and their MN population has increased significantly over the past decade. While the insects do not present a health threat to humans or pets, they can be an annoyance to homeowners or those trying to enjoy the outdoors.

There are a few steps homeowners can take to try to reduce the nuisance.   Spray insecticides can help control the presence of the beetles around a building. These products are available either at a hardware store for those that prefer to do it themselves or throughpest control companies that can apply a spray.  In either case these products are typically pretty good at controlling the bugs for one season.
