Building Statistics

Inspections provides monthly and annual reports on citywide permit activity to the City Council. Click here for the current monthly building permit report. Previous reports are available in the Document Center.

Building permit activity is typically measured by the number of new dwelling units built each year.  In the early 2000’s, the City of Prior Lake experienced a boom, issuing permits for a record high 800 dwelling units in 2002. Since 2008, the number of new dwelling units constructed has dropped off. In 2010, the City issued permits for 94 new dwelling units.The City issues many other permits in addition to dwelling units. These include:

• Commercial (new construction and additions and alterations to existing buildings)Residential additions and alterationsPlumbingMechanical (heating, ventilation and air conditioning)
• Miscellaneous permits (sheds, garages, demolitions, other)

In 2010, the City of Prior Lake issued 1,624 building permits.
