Election Information and Results
The general election is Tuesday, Nov. 2 from 7 a.m. - 8 p.m. Absentee balloting for the general election begins on Friday, Sept. 17 and voter registration closes on Oct. 12. Absentee voting is also open Oct. 3 from 10 a.m. - 3 p.m. and Nov. 1 until 5 p.m.
Two Council seats are up for election in 2010 and will be four-year terms that expire in 2014. The Mayoral and other two Council seats expire at the end of 2012 and will be four-year terms that correspond with the presidential elections, thereafter. To be eligible for candidacy you must be a resident for 30 days before the election, be a qualified voter, 21 years old and not running for another office in the same election.
The Prior Lake City Council adopted even-year elections in 2006 to save money, allow City elections to correspond with state and national elections, and allow more people to participate in the process.

The City of Prior Lake has eight voting precincts. Precinct 6B is at a new location: Living Hope Lutheran Church (formerly Crossroads Church).

People wishing to register to vote may click here for a Minnesota Voter Registration Application, contact the Prior Lake Finance Department at (952) 447-9840 to obtain a registration card by mail, or stop at City Hall, 4646 Dakota Street SE, to register to vote. Do not mail in registrations less than 20 days before Election Day.
Eligible voters may also register at their respective precinct on Election Day. To be eligible, individuals must have resided in Prior Lake at least 20 days.
Residents may vote absentee for the 2010 general election at Scott County offices from Oct. 2 to Oct. 30 during regular business hours (8 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.); on Saturday, Oct. 31 (10 a.m. - 3 p.m.); and on Monday, Nov. 2 (8 a.m. - 5 p.m.). Tuesday, Oct. 20 is the last date to request mailing of ballots for absentee voting for registered voters.

| 2009 General Election Results |
The 2009 General Election was Tuesday, Nov. 3 and resident Mike Myser was elected the new Mayor of the City of Prior Lake. He won the three-year term with 45% of the vote. Richard Keeney and Warren Erickson were each elected to fill two, three-year City Council terms, each garnering more than 19% of the vote. Keeney will be new to the council; Erickson was first elected in 2005.

There were 2,940 ballots cast out of 13,907 registered voters (including new voters) in Prior Lake, for a turnout of 21.14%. Precinct 1 – which includes the area around City Hall and to the northeast along Hwy. 13 – had the highest turnout at 29.76%; Precinct 3 – in the southeastern part of the city – had the lowest turnout with 13.25% voting.
There were 697 under votes in the city council race. Up to two candidates could have been chosen, but 697 ballots had votes for only one or none of the council candidates.

The 2007 election was Tuesday, Nov. 6. There were 12,887 registered Prior Lake voters with 5,372 voting. That’s a 41.7% turnout.
