Election Information and Results
The mayoral and two council seats expire at the end of 2012 and will be four-year terms that correspond with the presidential election. To be eligible for candidacy you must be a resident for 30 days before the election, be a qualified voter, 21 years old and not running for another office in the same election.

The Prior Lake City Council adopted even-year elections in 2006 to save money, allow City elections to correspond with state and national elections, allowing more people to participate in the process.

People wishing to register to vote may click here for a Minnesota Voter Registration Application, contact the Prior Lake Finance Department at (952) 447-9840 to obtain a registration card by mail, or stop at City Hall, 4646 Dakota Street SE, to register to vote. Do not mail in registrations less than 20 days before Election Day.
Eligible voters may also register at their respective precinct on Election Day. To be eligible, individuals must have resided in Prior Lake at least 20 days.
Before any election, residents may vote absentee at Scott County Government Center offices at 200 Fourth Ave. W. in Shakopee (not in Prior Lake) during regular business hours (8 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.). You may pick up an application for an absentee ballot in person, or request one by mail from the Scott County Elections Department at (952) 496-8560.

According to Scott County, Prior Lake has 14,587 registered voters and 9,079 voted in the 2010 general election; that is a 62.2% turnout. There were 5,634 under votes in the city council race, meaning up to two candidates could have been chosen, but those votes were left blank. | 2009 General Election Results |
The 2009 General Election was Tuesday, Nov. 3 and resident Mike Myser was elected the new Mayor of the City of Prior Lake. He won the three-year term with 45% of the vote. Richard Keeney and Warren Erickson were each elected to fill two, three-year City Council terms, each garnering more than 19% of the vote. Keeney will be new to the council; Erickson was first elected in 2005.

There were 2,940 ballots cast out of 13,907 registered voters (including new voters) in Prior Lake, for a turnout of 21.14%. Precinct 1 – which includes the area around City Hall and to the northeast along Hwy. 13 – had the highest turnout at 29.76%; Precinct 3 – in the southeastern part of the city – had the lowest turnout with 13.25% voting.
There were 697 under votes in the city council race. Up to two candidates could have been chosen, but 697 ballots had votes for only one or none of the council candidates.

The 2007 election was Tuesday, Nov. 6. There were 12,887 registered Prior Lake voters with 5,372 voting. That’s a 41.7% turnout.
