FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS OF FINANCE

How much are my taxes going to be?

 Customer Care Tip:

Residents either building or buying a new home in Prior Lake can calculate their property taxes by clicking here. Simply insert the market value of the property and a property tax estimate is generated.

Typically under a new construction scenario, if the resident has a valuation number, the city can provide an estimate of property taxes for the new home. Keep in mind that there is a two-year lag before full valuation appears on the property tax statement.

What is the balance of my special assessments?

A simple call to our office will provide the customer with an up-to-date payoff balance of special assessments. Remember that the present installment of principal and interest must always be paid with the current year's property tax statement to Scott County, while all assessment payoffs are made payable to the City of Prior Lake.

Where do I go to vote?

There are eight voting precincts in the City of Prior Lake. A map of these sites is readily available or you may call (952) 447-9840 to obtain directions. New residents in the community must register 20 days prior to any election for their information to appear on the election day roster.

Is a business license necessary in Prior Lake?

Generally speaking the city does not require a business to be licensed in the community for operating a business in approved locations. A number of exceptions are identified under the Licensing & Permitting section of this site. But for typical commercial enterprises there are no special city licensing regulations other than what may be required by the State of Minnesota.
