This is a full-time key leadership and management position in law enforcement responsible for all aspects of managing business operations of the Police Department and setting policy and standards for the police staff for the purposes of protecting lives and property, enforcing laws and ordinances and maintaining public order throughout the city.
Primary responsibilities include providing leadership through actions and on-going communications within the organization and community; setting department goals, policies and standards for police operations; analyzing, budgeting and reporting for all business operations and programs; implementing employee evaluation system and performance review process; developing effective working partnerships across departments and jurisdictions; evaluating and implementing new technologies; and acting as primary contact with media/public in emergency and/or critical police matters.

Experience and Training: Training and experience equivalent to the following is required:
• Bachelor’s degree in business, or public or police administration. Advanced degree in business or public administration preferred.
• Complete and up-to-date training and certification by Minnesota Board of Peace Officers Standards and Training.
• A minimum of seven years progressively responsible experience in law enforcement including a minimum of five years as a supervisor/manager;
• Equivalent combination of education and experience.

Hours: Minimum 40 hours/week, as necessary to effectively perform job responsibilities.

Police Chief Salary Rate: Starting Range $98,758 - $106,553 DOQ. Benefits in accordance with the City of Prior Lake personnel policy, including paid vacation/sick leave, 12 paid holidays, retirement health savings plan, health and dental insurance and PERA coordinated retirement benefits.
