Long Range Planning Committee
Prior Lake is on the cutting edge when it comes to long-range planning, and proof lies in its 2030 Vision and Strategic Plan -- a document that was created by the community, for the community.

In the spring of 2002, a group of nearly 70 community stakeholders met as a Long Range Planning Committee for a series of meetings that led to the creation of the 2020 Vision and Strategic Plan.

The committee reconvened in the fall of 2003 to update the vision and strategic plan, and then again in the spring of 2005 to advance the vision and strategic plan to the year 2030.

More than 100 people participated in the spring of 2005, making those two meetings the largest strategic planning meeting ever conducted by the City of Prior Lake.

From their efforts came the 2030 Vision and Strategic Plan!

While each Long Range Planning Committee has been somewhat unique in its composition, all have brought together voices from every corner of the community, including youth, seniors, governments, the school district, churches, and the Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community.

On Tuesday, February 13, 2007 the Long-range Planning Committee met at the Wilds to again update the plan. More than 115 Prior Lake stakeholders participated and a good 75% of the committee
members were Prior Lake residents. The assembled committee heard from City staff about the progress our community has made over the last four plus years under the direction of the 2030 Vision and Strategic Plan.
The key focus was groups of 10 to 12 Long-range Planning Committee representatives reviewing each of the plan’s nine vision elements and reporting their findings to the whole. A new vision element entitled, “Safe and Healthy Community” has been added recognizing that for Prior Lake to be a Wonderful Place to Call Home, citizens must feel safe and participate in efforts to make themselves and others safe.

If you would like to have a voice in the direction of your community, please email Administrative Assistant Charlotte Greene or call her at (952) 447-9803.
