Sand Point Beach Pond Maintenance Project Update

Work is progressing on a pond maintenance and water quality retrofit project near Sand Point Beach. The ponds help protect Lower Prior Lake from untreated stormwater runoff, but sediment and debris have accumulated over time, reducing their effectiveness. The planned work will include excavating the sediment, expanding the ponds to increase the amount of water they can treat, and installing an iron-enhanced sand filter (IESF) to treat even more water and improve water quality in the lake. The Prior Lake-Spring Lake Watershed District (PLSLWD) is providing a grant to help install the IESF. The construction should be mostly complete by May and there will be access to the park throughout the project. For more information, read the project brochure or visit the Prior Lake Watershed District project page. If you have more questions, call Water Resources Engineer, Pete Young, at 952-447-9831.
