SMSC and Businesses Donate Nine AEDs to Scott County Sheriff's Office

The Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community (SMSC) announced a nearly $6,000 donation to the Scott County Sheriff’s Office to purchase several automated external defibrillators (AEDs). This grant was matched with approximately $6,000 in donations from local businesses Rahr Malting and CertainTeed, allowing the county to purchase a total of nine AED devices.

The SMSC has given more than $350 million to organizations and causes in the past 25 years, including donating more than 1,000 AEDs to fellow tribes, first response agencies, and government agencies. AEDs are used to apply a lifesaving shock to an individual whose heart has stopped beating. In the past 15 years, at least 28 lives have been saved by law enforcement officers and emergency medical personnel using SMSC-donated AEDs.

“Providing public safety donations is part of our tribe’s ongoing commitment to helping our neighbors,” said SMSC Chairman Charles R. Vig. “We are glad these medical devices will assist Scott County officers in their important work.”
