Citizens Police Academy
The Citizen’s Police Academy is an opportunity for people who live or work in Prior Lake to participate in a mini law enforcement course taught by Prior Lake Police Officers. The classes are primarily hands-on and provide insight into topics such as patrol procedures, traffic enforcement, DUI demonstrations, use of force, defensive tactics, crime scene investigation, firearms and deadly force decision making, and more. Participants may also go on a four-hour ride-a-long with an officer.
The Citizen’s Academy usually meets Tuesdays evenings from mid-February through early April.
Participant Requirements
- Must be a Prior Lake resident or work within the city limits.
- Over 18 years of age.
- Submit a completed the application.
- Undergo a criminal background check (A criminal record does not automatically disqualify an applicant).
Application Process
- Complete the downloadable Citizen's Police Academy application in full and include a photocopy of a driver’s license or state identification card.
- Deliver or mail the application and other materials labeled "attention Crime Prevention" to the Prior Lake Police Department, 4649 Dakota St., Prior Lake MN 55372.
