Drug Abuse Resistance Education (D.A.R.E.)
This year millions of school children around the world will benefit from D.A.R.E., the highly acclaimed program that gives kids the skills they need to avoid involvement in drugs, gangs and violence.
D.A.R.E. is a police officer-led series of classroom lessons that teaches children from kindergarten through 12th grade how to resist peer pressure and live productive drug and violence-free lives.
Founded in 1983, D.A.R.E. is so successful it is now implemented in 75% of our nation's school districts and more than 43 countries around the world.

| 2008 D.A.R.E. Day and Bikathon on May 3, 2008 |
For 18 years, the Prior Lake Rotary Club has sponsored the D.A.R.E. Bike-a-thon as a fundraiser for the D.A.R.E. (Drug Abuse Resistance Education) program in Prior Lake. The event helps the community's children make good decisions concerning the challenges they face every day regarding alcohol, drugs and violence. Thousands of children and adults have participated in the Bike-a-thon over the years.
D.A.R.E. DAY 2008 will be Saturday morning, May 3, at Lakefront Park. The event is full of activities featuring a one-mile Fun Run, the 18th annual Bike-a-thon, and other games and entertainment for Prior Lake/Savage area students and their parents.
Prior Lake Police Officers, Prior Lake Rotary members, and other volunteers will be stationed along the courses to ensure complete safety for all riders. As always, the wearing of bicycle helmets is strongly encouraged.
