4th Annual Night to Unite is Thursday, Aug. 2
Once a year, citizens leave an outside light on in symbolic unison over the need
for citizen involvement in crime prevention. Night to Unite hopes to strengthen neighborhood and community partnerships, raise awareness about drug and crime prevention, and create support, as well as gain participation in, local anti-crime programs. Many neighborhoods throw pot-luck parties
or ice-cream socials. Police officers and firefighters from Prior Lake visit the parties to mingle with community members
and let children look through police squads and fire trucks.

To have police officers or firefighters attend your block party between 6 and 9 p.m., call Prior Lake Police Officer Maureen O'Hehir at
(952) 447-9874 by Thursday, July 26. Be sure to leave contact information and an explanation of location and time of the gathering.
Night to Unite occurs on the first Tuesday in August every year, typically, between 6 and 9 p.m. It was
started by the Minnesota Crime Prevention Association,
a statewide, non-profit organization of citizens, law enforcement officers, and crime prevention practitioners who work together to promote, develop, and advance crime prevention programs.
More information on the program is available on the
Night to Unite website. |
