Water Supply System
The City of Prior Lake currently operates five wells and is planning to add one new well per year through the year 2010 to meet the demand of its growing population.
Four of the existing wells are between 345 and 372 feet deep and tap into the Jordan acquifer, while the fifth draws from the Franconia-Ironton-Galesville (FIG) aquifer which is 630 feeet below ground.
As of October of 2005, the city's water supply system had the potential to pump up to 6.5 million gallons per minute.
In September of 2005, the city awarded the bid for the construcion of two new wells -- the city's sixth and seventh -- to be located not far from the Prior Lake Maintenance Center. When they are brought on line toward the end of 2006, the city's water system will be capable of producing well over 8 million gallons per day.
The City of Prior Lake Water Treatment Facility (WTF) project is underway and scheduled for completion in January '09. Once operational, the facility will benefit the whole city. To find out more click here.
