In response to COVID-19 concerns and to limit exposure for residents, contractors and City staff, the City of Prior Lake has suspended interior inspections on occupied buildings until further notice; however, the City will continue to conduct exterior inspections and inspections on unoccupied new construction buildings using the recommendations for screening, social distancing, eliminating contact, sanitizing, etc.
In addition, the City of Prior Lake requests all customers limit their in-person interactions as much as possible. You can obtain most residential and commercial building permits online. A building permit gives you legal permission to start construction of a building project in accordance with the approved drawings and specifications. The drawings and specifications must be approved and a permit issued by the City of Prior Lake. The purpose of the permit is to ensure that the building project meets minimum safety, zoning and aesthetic requirements enforced by the City of Prior Lake and required by the State Building Code.

Planning to Dig?
If you're planning to do any digging in connection with your building project, you must contact Gopher State One Call, (651) 454-0002, to arrange for utility companies to mark buried utility lines in your yard. This service is free, but you should call at least 48 hours before digging.
