Police Chief Named

The City of Prior Lake has named Steve Frazer as the new Chief of the Prior Lake Police Department. Frazer will lead the agency’s 34.5 employees, including both sworn and civilian staff, and manage the department’s $4.6 million budget. Frazer said about his appointment, “I am humbled to have been selected as the Prior Lake Chief of Police. I cannot wait to make Prior Lake my home and place of work. “

City Manager Michael Plante made the decision after a competitive application process, including interview panels with community stakeholders and police department staff. Plante said, “After undertaking a thorough process I am confident that Chief Frazer is a wonderful match for the City of Prior Lake. His deep understanding of the mechanics of police management and community engagement, coupled with his proven leadership, will be important assets for our City for years to come. I look forward to welcoming Chief Frazer to Prior Lake and working with him as the City’s new police chief.”

Frazer comes to Prior Lake with over 27 years of police experience in a variety of positions. He began his career as a peace officer for the City of Roseville. From there, he moved to the St. Paul Police Department where he has served as a Commander since 2006. Most recently, Frazer served as Chief Deputy of the Ramsey County Sheriff’s Office, where he managed the day-to-day operations of the office.

Frazer will be sworn in as Prior Lake’s Police Chief at the May 20, 2019 City Council meeting. The public is welcome to attend.
